She then went on to Harvard Law School, graduating with honors. After law school, Chapin clerked for a federal judge before joining a law firm in Chicago where she focused on civil rights litigation. She left the firm after 5 years and began working for various non-profit organizations dedicated to voting rights and increasing voter participation. In 2018, Chapin decided to run for Congress in her home district of Illinois' 12th congressional district.
