Biography

Emilie Kornheiser is a Democratic member of the Vermont House of Representatives, representing Windham-7 district since 2019. Notable achievements include chairing the House Committee on Ways and Means, sponsoring right-to-repair legislation, and introducing a 2024 tax on wealthy residents.

Emilie Kornheiser was born in Louisville, Kentucky, raised in New York, and now lives in Brattleboro, Vermont, in a converted barn with her family, including one child. She is Jewish and brings international experience as a consultant brokering partnerships for community development, along with work promoting democracy and small business overseas. In Vermont, she started her own small business in downtown Brattleboro and held roles at community organizations focused on workforce development, early childhood action, and economic justice. Elected in 2018 after defeating incumbent Valerie Stuart in the Democratic primary, she won without opposition in the general and has been reelected since, including against Republican Richard Morton in 2020. She was appointed to the Vermont Commission on Women in 2017.
