Account and Voter Profile Information

When you create an account and claim your voter profile, we collect:

  • Full legal name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Information that links your account to your public voter registration record

When you claim a voter profile, that profile becomes exclusively associated with your account and is no longer available for others to claim.

Content You Create

When you use our Services, we collect the content you create, including:

  • Posts and comments in legislative forums
  • Messages sent to elected representatives
  • Petition signatures
  • Any other content you submit

Transaction Information

If you make a donation, we collect:

  • Billing name and address
  • Payment method information (processed by our third-party payment providers)
  • Transaction history

Communications

When you contact us, we collect:

  • The content of your communications
  • Any attachments you provide

Improve and Develop Our Services

  • Analyze usage patterns and trends
  • Conduct research and analytics (using anonymized or aggregated data)
  • Test and develop new features
  • Troubleshoot and fix issues

Safety and Security

  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms
  • Protect the rights, property, and safety of WeVote, our users, and the public

3. How Your Information is Shared

WeVote does not sell personally identifiable information to third parties.

We do not rent, trade, or otherwise monetize your personal data.

3.2 Information Shared with Representatives

When you contact or engage with elected representatives through our Services, we share information from your profile to facilitate that communication. You control what is shared through your privacy settings.

3.3 Information That's Always Anonymous

The following activities are always anonymous and never linked to your identity:

  • Your votes on posts, legislation, and polls
  • Your likes and similar engagement actions
  • Your browsing activity on our platform

We aggregate this anonymous data to show community sentiment (e.g., "1,247 verified voters support this bill") without ever revealing individual identities.

3.4 Information That's Always Public

When you create content on our platform, certain information is visible to others:

  • Your username or display name
  • Your posts, comments, and forum contributions
  • Your petition signatures
  • Contextual information (e.g., which forum you're participating in, your general district)

3.5 Service Providers

We share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, including:

  • Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers
  • Payment processors
  • Email and communication services
  • Analytics providers (receiving only anonymized data)
  • Security and fraud prevention services

These providers are contractually obligated to use your information only to provide services to us and to maintain appropriate security measures.

We may share anonymized or aggregated data that cannot reasonably be used to identify you, including:

3.8 Business Transfers

If WeVote is involved in a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and any choices you may have regarding your information.

4.1 Privacy Settings

You can control how your information is shared through your account privacy settings, including:

  • What information representatives see when you contact them
  • Whether to share your email, phone, or engagement history
  • Your display name and public profile information

4.2 Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.

Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.

Portability: Request a portable copy of your data in a machine-readable format.

Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for processing where consent is the legal basis.

4.3 Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. When you delete your account:

  • Your profile information will be deleted within 30 days
  • Content you created may remain visible but will be disassociated from your identity
  • Anonymous activity data (votes, likes) will be retained in aggregate form
  • Some information may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as necessary to provide our Services and fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. Specific retention periods include:

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

Our Services are not directed to individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

8. International Data Transfers

WeVote is based in Nebraska, United States. If you access our Services from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.

Our Services may contain links to third-party websites and services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access.

10. Do Not Track

Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" feature. Our Services do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals.

11. California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose
  • Right to request deletion of your personal information
  • Right to opt out of the "sale" of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
