Biography
Representative Brian Cina
Brian Cina represents District Chittenden-15 in the Vermont House of Representatives as a member of the Progressive/Democratic party. He was born and raised in northeastern New Jersey and moved to New Hampshire in 1994 to attend Dartmouth College. In 1998, he relocated to Burlington, Vermont, where he has lived and worked for over two decades.
Cina is a social worker, activist, community organizer, and performance artist. He began his career in Burlington as an AmeriCorps member at Spectrum Youth and Family Services, followed by work in human services providing restorative justice and outreach to youth and families from 1999 to 2003. Since 2010, he has operated a private clinical social work practice in downtown Burlington.
A notable community achievement is his co-founding of *ISGOOD * in 2005, a neighborhood organization that has reduced crime through gardening and community service activities.
Education
Cina earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Dartmouth College in 1998. He later pursued graduate studies, earning a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Vermont in 2005.
Political Experience
Legislative Service: Cina was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in 2016 and continues to serve as State Representative. He is a member of the House Health Care Committee and serves as co-chair of the Working Vermonters' Caucus. He is also a member of the Climate Solutions Caucus and the Women's Caucus, and co-founded the Social Equity Caucus.
Local Government: Before his election to the state legislature, Cina served on the Burlington School Board from 2014 to 2017 as a School Commissioner and Chair of the Finance Committee. During his tenure, he led the search for a new superintendent in 2015.
