Troy Nehls (TX-22)

Biography

Troy Edwin Nehls, born on April 7, 1968, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, is an American politician and former law enforcement officer serving as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 22nd congressional district since January 3, 2021. A member of the Republican Party, Nehls previously held the position of Sheriff of Fort Bend County, Texas, from 2013 to 2021.

Nehls enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 1988, serving tours in Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and retired with the rank of Major after 21 years of service. He was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for his military service.

In his law enforcement career, Nehls began with the Fort Bend Independent School District Police Department in 1994. He served as Constable for Fort Bend County Precinct 4 from 2004 to 2012 before being elected Sheriff in 2012, a role he held until 2021.

Nehls is married to Jill, an educator, and they have three daughters.

  • In March 2024, the House Ethics Committee announced an investigation into Nehls regarding allegations of misusing campaign funds. In May 2024, the Office of Congressional Ethics found probable cause that Nehls converted campaign funds for personal use.

• Military Service Recognition:

  • Nehls' commanding officer confirmed that he was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for his service in Afghanistan.

• Re-election:

  • Nehls was re-elected in November 2024, defeating Democratic challenger Marquette Greene-Scott.
