Michael Jonathan Cloud was born on May 13, 1975, and is a Republican politician representing Texas's 27th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. He was first elected in a special election in 2018 and has served continuously since then.

Cloud is a husband and father with deep roots in the Coastal Bend region of Texas. His district encompasses fourteen counties along Texas's Gulf Coast, including areas from Corpus Christi and Victoria extending to Bastrop County near Austin and Jackson County near Houston.

Political Experience

Cloud's political career began at the grassroots level before his election to Congress. He served as GOP Chairman for Victoria County for seven years and was actively involved in Texas politics before being encouraged to run for national office in 2018.

In Congress, Cloud has focused on issues affecting south Texas, including border security, veterans' affairs, and supporting small businesses. He personally advocated with former President Trump for local priorities, including Hurricane Harvey relief, Port of Corpus Christi infrastructure funding, and the Matagorda ship channel expansion project.

In 2023, Cloud earned a position on the House Appropriations Committee, where he serves on multiple subcommittees. He is also a member of the House Department of Government Efficiency Committee. Through these roles, he works on federal spending priorities and advocating for efficient use of taxpayer dollars.

Background

Prior to his congressional service, Cloud built extensive experience in the private sector and ministry. He was a small business owner and founder of a video production company, providing him firsthand knowledge of business challenges and regulatory issues. He also worked as media and communications director at Faith Family Church for over a decade, reflecting his involvement in faith-based community work.
