Biography
Timmy Beson is a Republican state representative serving Michigan's 96th House District, which includes Bay City, Essexville, and several townships in Bay County such as Bangor, Beaver, Frankenlust, Fraser, Garfield, Hampton, Kawkawlin, Merritt, Monitor, and Portsmouth. A lifelong Bay County resident born in Bay City, he is married to Lisa and has two daughters and one son. Beson was first elected in 2020, defeating incumbent Brian Elder, and has been reelected in 2022 and 2024, with his most recent term starting January 2025. Notable achievements include sponsoring a bipartisan COVID-19 aid plan early in his first term, passing House Bill 5450 to eliminate unnecessary fees on food trucks and establish statewide safety standards, and shepherding multiple bills into law with bipartisan support. He prioritizes issues facing Bay County families and currently chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and Insurance and Financial Services, while serving on the Appropriations Committee and subcommittees for Environment, Great Lakes and Energy; Corrections and Judiciary; and Labor and Economic Opportunity.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from John Glenn High School in 1992; earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Saginaw Valley State University.
- Political Experience: Prior to the House, served as a trustee on the Bangor Township Schools Board of Education; owned and operated Beson's Market, a family meat market and grocery store north of Bay City; has represented the 96th District since 2021, completing three sessions as of 2025.
