Biography

Ken Borton

Ken Borton is a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives representing District 105, which includes Crawford, Missaukee, Otsego, and Roscommon counties, as well as parts of Antrim, Kalkaska, and Oscoda counties in Northern Michigan.

Born December 2, 1957, in Highland Park, Borton has been a lifelong Michigan resident and has called Gaylord home since 1995. He is married to Brenda and has two children and five grandchildren. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys observing Northern Michigan wildlife and is the owner of the Snowman Cam. Borton is a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Gaylord and holds memberships in Right to Life, the Farm Bureau, and the Chamber of Commerce.

Education

Borton graduated from Liberty University in 2017 with a diploma and certificate in Advanced Bible Study and Biblical Counseling.

Political Experience

Borton was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in November 2020 and assumed office on January 1, 2021. He currently serves as House Republican Caucus Chair.

Prior to his election to the state House, Borton had extensive experience in local government and county administration. He served as chair of the Otsego County Board of Commissioners for three terms and was a member of the board for five terms overall. He also served as past president of the Michigan Association of Counties and was a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Counties from 2018 to 2020. Additionally, he worked as an administrator for the Michigan Association of Counties and the Northern Michigan Counties Association.

In the state House, Borton serves on the House Appropriations Committee and chairs the Agriculture and Rural Development and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee. He also serves as vice chair of the Department of Environment Great Lakes and Energy Appropriations Subcommittee and is a member of the State and Local Transportation and School Aid and Department of Education Appropriations Subcommittees.

Borton's legislative priorities focus on supporting Northern Michigan's agriculture industry, strengthening insurance oversight measures, preserving snowmobile trails, and reducing bureaucratic red tape and government overreach. Before entering elective office, he was a self-employed real estate and property manager for over 43 years.
