Biography

Kris Fair

Delegate Kris Fair is a Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 3 in Frederick County, Maryland. He was sworn into office on January 11, 2023, and is the first openly gay lawmaker from western Maryland.

Kristopher Goddard Fair was born on August 19, 1984, in Montgomery County, Maryland, and grew up in Mount Airy, Maryland. He is married and currently serves as Executive Director of The Frederick Center.

Before entering the legislature, Fair worked as a manager at New York New York Salon & Spa in Frederick for 17 years, leaving in 2021. He has been actively involved in community leadership, serving as Board Chair of The Frederick Center and the Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership from 2015 to 2021, and received the Community Leader of the Year award from the Maryland LGBT Chamber of Commerce in 2022.

Education

Fair graduated from Linganore High School in 2002. He earned an Associate degree in General Studies from Frederick Community College in 2008, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History from Hood College in 2013.

Political Experience

Fair's political involvement began in 2012 as a Frederick County campaign coordinator for Question 6. He served as Vice-Chair of the Frederick County Democratic Central Committee from 2013 to 2014 and as Campaign Manager for the Frederick County Democratic Party in 2014. In 2021-2022, he worked as Legislative Director for Delegate Karen Lewis Young before running for office.

Fair was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2022. Currently, he serves as Chair of the Election Law Subcommittee of the Government, Labor, and Elections Committee and is a member of the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus. He was appointed Chair of Maryland's LGBTQ+ Caucus during the 2023 legislative session. Additionally, he serves as an Alternate Member of the National Capital Regional Transportation Planning Board for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
