Biography
Ashanti F. Martinez is a Democrat representing District 22 in Prince George's County, Maryland, in the House of Delegates. Appointed to the seat on February 24, 2023, he serves as Majority Whip , chairs the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus , and holds leadership roles in the Legislative Black Caucus and Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus. Notable achievements include recognition as a Daily Record "Very Important Professional" under 40 , Prince George’s County Community Advocate of the Year , and service on the Virginia I. Jones Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Council and Task Force on Responsible Use of Natural Psychedelic Substances .
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended St. Mary’s School in Landover Hills and graduated from Parkdale High School in Riverdale Park, Maryland; earned a B.A. in political science and government from Howard University , where he was campaign director for the College Democrats of America and resident assistant .
