Biography
Karen Simpson is a Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 3 in Frederick County, elected in November 2022 and sworn in on January 11, 2023.
Karen Patricia Simpson was born on August 28, 1967, in Baltimore, Maryland. She is married with two children and resides in Frederick County after moving there following her husband's job as a pastor at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boonsboro. Notable achievements include her advocacy for environmental policies, such as signing a 2022 resolution with the Chesapeake Climate Action Network for 100% carbon-free electricity by 2035, and support for strengthening domestic violence protections, including removing statutes of limitations on workplace sexual harassment reports and creating a state registry for related convictions. She serves on the Judiciary Committee, including its Family and Juvenile Law and Public Safety Subcommittees, and is a member of Women Legislators of Maryland, Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus, and Maryland Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus .

- Political Experience: Unsuccessful run for Maryland House District 31B in 2018; elected to District 3 in 2022. Prior involvement includes Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee and Maryland Legislative District 31 Democratic Club. Public service includes Pastoral Advisory Committee at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Suicide Bereavement Group Coordinator at Progressions, and membership on the Frederick County Juvenile Delinquency Prevention and Policy Board.
