Biography
Susan McLain is a Democratic member of the Oregon House of Representatives representing District 29, which includes Forest Grove, Cornelius, and parts of Hillsboro in western Washington County. A retired teacher with 42 years of experience teaching speech, debate, and English at Glencoe High School, she has deep roots in the community where she raised her family, attends church in Cornelius, and was involved in 4-H raising livestock as a youth. Elected to the House in 2014 after defeating Republican Mark Richman, she was sworn in on January 12, 2015, and has served continuously since, including in the 83rd Legislative Assembly. Prior to this, she served 16 years as a Metro councilor for the regional government covering parts of Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties; she ran unsuccessfully for Washington County commissioner in 2006.
