Susan Komives McComas was born in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated with a B.A. in communications and political science from Michigan State University in 1972. In 1988, McComas was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, where she served until 1998. She focused on education, healthcare, and creating economic opportunities.
