ABOUT
John Thune is the junior U.S. Senator from South Dakota. He was first elected to the Senate in 2004. He serves on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. He also serves on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, as well as the Senate Committee on Finance. Prior to serving in the U.S. Senate, Thune served South Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives for six years. He was first elected in 1996. Before running for Congress, he worked as Executive Director of the South Dakota Republican Party. He also served as a legislative aide for U.S. Senator Jim Abdnor and worked on Abdnor’s 1984 campaign for the Senate. Thune was born in Pierre, South Dakota in 1961. He earned degrees from Biola University in California and the University of South Dakota. Prior to entering politics, he worked as a teacher and coach. Thune resides in Sioux Falls with his wife Kimberley. They have two daughters.read less
