James E. Risch was born on May 3, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Idaho and later obtained a Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho College of Law. Risch began his political career in the Idaho Senate, where he served from 2007 to 2008 before becoming the 38th Lieutenant Governor of Idaho. In 2009, he was appointed to the U.S. Senate, where he has focused on issues like national security, agriculture, and economic growth.
