Biography

Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz was born on December 22, 1970, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to Eleanor Elizabeth Wilson and Rafael Cruz. His mother, an American from Delaware, and his father, a Cuban immigrant, were working in the oil industry in Canada at the time of his birth. The family moved to Houston, Texas, when Cruz was a child. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen and has been a prominent figure in American politics, known for his conservative stance and active role in the Republican Party.
