Josiah Patkotak is an Alaska Native leader and whaling captain. He was born and raised in Utqiaġvik, Alaska. Josiah has spent over 30 years fighting for the rights of the Inupiat people in the Arctic, advancing Inupiat culture and values, and working to build stronger local economies across the North Slope region. He led the effort to establish the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation. Josiah continues to be a leading voice for Alaska Native people. He advocates for responsible resource development that provides jobs and economic opportunity while respecting Inupiat culture and protecting the environment. His goal is to leave a strong cultural, economic and leadership legacy for future generations.read less
