Biography
Senator Mike Cronk
Mike Cronk is a Republican state senator representing Alaska Senate District R, a position he has held since 2025. He is a long-time Alaska resident with 53 years of experience living in the state. Cronk was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and has resided in Tok, Alaska since 2007. He is married and has five children: Emily and Tyler Dobson, Alexis Cronk, Eden and Brandon LaPointe, and Skye.
Education
Cronk graduated from Walter Northway High School in 1987 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1992.
Political Experience
Before his election to the state senate, Cronk served in the Alaska House of Representatives, representing House District 6 and House District 36 . He currently serves as the Senate Republican Caucus Leader.
Prior to his legislative career, Cronk worked as an elementary and middle school teacher and served on the Upper Tanana/40 Fish and Game Advisory Committee . He was also elected to the Alaska Gateway Regional School Board and has held positions as a park ranger and emergency wildland firefighter with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Notable Achievements
As a legislator, Cronk has championed public safety initiatives, including funding for additional state troopers and expansion of the Village Public Safety Officer program. He has supported education funding, including a $680 increase and passage of the Alaska Reads Act. He has also worked on timber industry legislation and infrastructure improvements, including the Railbelt intertie upgrade.
