Gary C. Peters was born in Pontiac, Michigan in 1958. He earned a bachelor's degree from Alma College, a master's degree in philosophy from Michigan State University, an MBA from the University of Detroit Mercy, and a law degree from Wayne State University. After working as an assistant vice president at Merrill Lynch and as an assistant vice president at Paine Webber, he served as the Michigan state lottery commissioner from 1993 to 1994 under Governor John Engler. He was elected to the Michigan Senate in 1994 and served three terms.read less
