Biography
Mike Braun is the 52nd Governor of Indiana, serving since 2025 as a member of the Republican Party. Born Michael Kent Braun on March 24, 1954, in Jasper, Indiana, he is a businessman who built Meyer Distributing into a national company employing thousands across 38 states. Previously, he represented Indiana as a U.S. Senator from 2019 to 2025 and as a state representative for the 63rd district in the Indiana House from 2014 to 2017. Notable achievements include defeating incumbent Senator Joe Donnelly in 2018 and winning the 2024 gubernatorial election with a 13.3% margin, the largest in an open-seat race since 1980.
Education
Braun graduated from Jasper High School in 1972 as class president and a letterman in football, basketball, and track. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics summa cum laude from Wabash College, where he served as student body president. He later obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Political Experience
Braun served on the Greater Jasper Consolidated School District board from 2004 to 2014. Elected to the Indiana House in 2014, he focused on infrastructure, coauthoring legislation for long-term road funding. He resigned in 2017 to successfully run for U.S. Senate, aligning with President Trump's agenda. In the Senate, he criticized congressional gridlock. He announced his gubernatorial bid in 2022, winning the 2024 Republican primary and general election against Jennifer McCormick and Donald Rainwater.
