Bennie G. Thompson was born in Bolton, Mississippi, on January 28, 1948. He received a B.S. from Tougaloo College in 1968 and a M.S. from Jackson State University in 1970. Thompson taught high school in Bolton from 1968 to 1980. He served as alderman, then mayor of Bolton, from 1973 to 1993. He was a member of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors from 1968 to 1993. Thompson was elected as a Democrat to the 103rd Congress in 1993, and has served in the House since January 3, 1993. He represents Mississippi's 2nd congressional district.read less
