John Barrasso is the junior United States Senator from Wyoming and a member of the Republican Party. He was appointed to the Senate in June 2007, following the death of Craig L. Thomas. Barrasso won a special election in 2008 to fill the remaining four years of Thomas' term, and was re-elected to a full six-year term in 2012. Prior to his appointment to the U.S. Senate, Barrasso served as a member of the Wyoming Senate, representing the 27th district from 2003 to 2007. He also practiced orthopedic surgery in Casper. Barrasso stepped down from the Wyoming Legislature upon winning his U.S. Senate seat. He was replaced by Republican John Schiffer in a November 2007 special election.read less
