Biography
Jasmine Felicia Crockett, born on March 29, 1981, in St. Louis, Missouri, is an American attorney and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 30th congressional district since January 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, she succeeded Eddie Bernice Johnson, who held the seat for 30 years.
Before her tenure in Congress, Crockett represented the 100th district in the Texas House of Representatives from 2021 to 2023. As the sole Black freshman and youngest Black lawmaker during the 87th Legislative Session, she filed more bills than any other freshman, focusing on criminal justice reform and voting rights. She was a founding member of both the Texas Progressive Caucus and the Texas Caucus on Climate, Energy, and the Environment.
In Congress, Crockett serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. She was elected as the Freshman Leadership Representative in the 118th Congress and appointed Vice Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in the 119th Congress. Additionally, she serves as Communications Task Force Co-Chair for the Democratic Women's Caucus.
Crockett is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and has been recognized for her advocacy and leadership, including being named one of the most effective freshmen by Texas Monthly and Freshman of the Year by the Dallas Observer.
