For the 2017-2018 legislative session, Balint made history as Vermont’s first openly LGBTQ woman elected Senate Majority Leader. In 2022, Balint became the first woman to represent a major party in a Vermont congressional campaign. She is seeking election to Vermont's open U.S. House seat in 2022.
