He attended the local public schools and was an excellent student and athlete. After high school, Charles attended college at Vanderbilt University where he majored in political science. He was active in student government and several campus organizations. He graduated with honors in 2002. After working for a few years in the business world, Charles decided to attend law school. He graduated from University of Tennessee College of Law in 2008. While in law school, he met his future wife Jane. Charles practiced law for several years before deciding to run for Congress in 2010. He was elected to represent Tennessee's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He continues to serve that district today. Charles and Jane have two young children, Emma and Christopher. They live in Chattanooga where they are active members of their local church and community organizations.read less
