Amy Binsfeld was born on January 27, 1983 and was raised in Ashford, Connecticut. She attended Manchester Community College where she studied chemical dependency counseling and later Central Connecticut State University where she studied psychology. After college, Binsfeld worked at a group home for at-risk teenage girls and later founded her own consulting company focused on educating young people about substance abuse and mental health issues.
