Biography
Robin Joseph Vos is a Republican politician and businessman representing Wisconsin's 33rd Assembly District in the Wisconsin State Assembly. He has served as the Speaker of the Assembly since 2013, making him the longest-serving speaker in Wisconsin history, and currently leads a Republican majority. Notable achievements include chairing the Joint Finance Committee, advancing major tax cuts, making Wisconsin a right-to-work state, and leading bipartisan task forces on mental health, rural schools, Alzheimer's, urban education, youth workforce readiness, and foster care. He owns businesses such as RoJos Popcorn Company and rental properties in southeastern Wisconsin.
Education
Vos graduated from Burlington High School in 1986 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a minor in Public Relations from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater in 1991. During college, he served as a student representative on the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents from 1989 to 1991, appointed by Governor Tommy Thompson.
Political Experience
Vos began his political career as a Racine County Board Supervisor from 1994 to 2004, chairing the Finance and Personnel Committees while keeping property tax increases below the state average. Elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2004 , he is now in his twelfth term representing District 33. Key roles include former co-chair of the Joint Finance Committee, where he supported budget reforms with Governor Scott Walker, and leadership in the National Conference of State Legislatures as President Emeritus and Vice-Chair of the State Legislative Leaders Foundation. He resides in Rochester with his wife, Michelle, and is involved in civic groups like Rotary and Knights of Columbus.
