Biography

Kelda Helen Roys is a Democratic state senator representing Wisconsin's 26th Senate District in Dane County since January 2021. Born on June 24, 1979, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, she is a small business owner, attorney, and former nonprofit executive who founded and serves as CEO of OpenHomes, a tech-enabled real estate brokerage. Notable achievements include serving as executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, where she led efforts to expand emergency contraception access and pass the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims Act—the state's first pro-choice law in three decades; helping 80,000 Wisconsinites gain healthcare access as vice-chair of the Assembly's Health and Healthcare Reform Committee; and leading opposition to Governor Scott Walker's worker protection cuts during 2011 protests. She ran for Wisconsin governor in 2018 and currently co-chairs the legislature’s Reproductive Freedom working group, serves on the Joint Committee on Finance , and is a member of the LGBTQ+ Caucus.
