Zooey Zephyr is a Democratic representative for Montana House District 95, based in Missoula, Montana. Born on August 29, 1988, in Billings, Montana, she is the first openly transgender woman elected to public office in the state, winning her seat in 2022. As a progressive, bisexual trans woman , she is a fierce advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, affordable housing, healthcare, and human rights, notably defeating anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, building bipartisan coalitions for Medicaid expansion and property tax relief, and gaining national attention in 2023 after being barred from the House chamber for opposing transphobic bills. Outside session, she engages in progressive activism nationwide and globally; she announced her re-election campaign in 2023 and her engagement to trans journalist Erin Reed that year. She also achieved recognition as a top-ranking competitive player in the video game Super Smash Bros. in 2014.
