Biography
Zellnor Myrie is a Democratic New York State Senator representing the 20th Senate District in Brooklyn. Born on November 3, 1986, to two Costa Rican immigrants, he was raised in Prospect Lefferts Gardens and is a lifelong Brooklyn native. He serves as Chairman of the Codes Committee and has been noted for advocacy on affordable housing, education, and racial equity, including his "Rebuild NYC" housing plan, universal afterschool programs, and a "Black Agenda for NYC" addressing the racial wealth gap and Black maternal health.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School; earned a degree in Urban Studies from Fordham University; obtained a law degree from Cornell Law School.
- Political Experience: Worked as Legislative Director for City Councilmember Fernando Cabrera; elected to the New York State Senate in 2018, where he continues to serve the 20th District; ran as a Democratic candidate for New York City mayor.
