Biography of Representative Zach Mako

Zachary Mako is an American politician serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives representing the 183rd Legislative District since 2017. He is currently serving his fifth term. The 183rd District includes parts of Lehigh and Northampton counties, encompassing Lowhill and North Whitehall townships and Slatington Borough in Lehigh County, as well as Allen, East Allen, Lehigh and Moore townships, and Bath, North Catasauqua, Northampton and Walnutport boroughs in Northampton County.

Mako is a lifelong resident of the 183rd District, having grown up in Walnutport. He is married to his wife, Brittany, and enjoys outdoor activities including hiking and snowboarding.

Education and Military Service

Mako graduated from Northampton Area High School and enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard in January 2008. He earned his bachelor's degree in finance from Kutztown University and his master's degree in business administration with a concentration in international affairs from Pennsylvania State University.

As a Chinook helicopter pilot in the National Guard, Mako was deployed to Afghanistan in December 2012 for nine months supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2016, he was selected to serve as an adviser to Estonia's top military officials. He was deployed again to Afghanistan in 2019 for 10 months to fight terrorism in Operation Freedom's Sentinel and continues to serve in the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Political Experience and Positions

In the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Mako currently serves on the Appropriations, Ethics, Finance, and Professional Licensure committees. His legislative priorities include property tax reform, job creation, and infrastructure improvements. He has focused on protecting individual and constitutional rights and has opposed tax increase proposals from governors Wolf and Shapiro.
