Biography

Zach Hudson is a Democratic member of the Oregon House of Representatives representing District 49, which includes Troutdale, Fairview, Wood Village, northern Gresham, and parts of east Portland. A lifelong Oregonian, educator, husband, and father, he was first elected in 2020, assuming office in January 2021, and won re-election for the 2025-2026 biennium. Notable achievements include sponsoring bills to support working families, expand healthcare access, improve schools, promote racial equity, protect the environment, and secure funding for local affordable housing and workforce training; he also helped pass legislation guaranteeing access to abortion post-Roe v. Wade. He currently chairs the House Committee on Higher Education & Workforce Development and serves on the House Education Committee, House Revenue Committee, and Joint Tax Expenditures Committee.

Education and Political Experience

Education: Grew up in Ashland and attended Ashland High School; earned a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Winchester in England, and a Master of Education from Portland State University.

Political Experience: Taught in East Multnomah County public schools since 2005 at sites including Corbett High School, Reynolds High School, Gresham High School, East Orient Elementary, and Mt. Hood Community College ; currently substitute-teaches special education when not in session and has coached wrestling, track, speech, and debate. Prior to the legislature, served on the Troutdale City Council, Troutdale Budget Committee, and Troutdale Citizens Advisory Committee, and helped organize Troutdale SummerFest.
