Biography

Representative Yolanda Young

Yolanda Young is a Democratic member of the Missouri House of Representatives representing District 22 since 2019. She is the oldest of eight children in her family and has been a long-time resident of the Ivanhoe Neighborhood in Kansas City.

Young won her seat in a 2019 special election, succeeding fellow Democrat Brandon Ellington after he was elected to the Kansas City City Council. She has dedicated decades to community service and neighborhood development in her district.

Political Experience

Young brings over 30 years of community engagement to her legislative role. Before entering the state legislature, she spent three decades mobilizing grassroots efforts and working alongside her neighbors in District 22. This extensive background in community organizing and constituent outreach informed her decision to run for office.

In the state legislature, Young focuses on bringing her constituents' concerns to the state level and addressing them through legislative action. Her priorities reflect her long commitment to her community, particularly regarding quality-of-life issues in the urban core, including advocacy for access to fresh fruits and vegetables in Kansas City.
