Biography
Xiongpao "Xp" Lee is an American politician and member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party ** representing **District 34B in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2025. He won a special election on September 16, 2025, with 60.9% of the vote to succeed Melissa Hortman following her assassination, and was sworn in on September 26, 2025. Previously a Brooklyn Park City Council member, Lee is a health equity analyst focused on healthcare, education, infrastructure, and Hmong community outreach. Notable positions include committee assignments on Children and Families Finance and Policy, Health Finance and Policy, and Veterans and Military Affairs Division.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: B.A. in marketing from the University of South Carolina Upstate.
- Early Career: Moved to Minnesota in 2003; volunteered with the Center for Hmong Arts and Talent; founded the Hmong American Census Network for 2020 census outreach; served as community coordinator at the Minnesota Department of Health during COVID-19 and policy manager for the Minnesota Council on Foundations.
