Representative Doreen Wonda Johnson
Doreen Wonda Johnson is an American politician serving as a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives from the 5th district, which covers parts of McKinley and San Juan counties. She was born on June 12, 1965. Johnson is a member of the Navajo Nation and represents the Democratic Party.
Political Experience
Johnson was first elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives in 2014 and assumed office on January 1, 2015. In her inaugural election, she defeated the incumbent Sandra Jeff, who had run as a write-in candidate after failing to obtain sufficient signatures for the primary ballot.
During her legislative service, Johnson has held memberships on several committees, including the Committee on Compacts, the Education Committee, and the Regulatory and Public Affairs Committee. She has continued to seek re-election and ran unopposed in the 2024 general election, receiving 8,810 votes.
Education and Professional Background
Before her legislative career, Johnson worked as the owner of Wonda Johnson Consulting and served as an executive staff assistant for the Navajo Nation office of the president. Her professional background in consulting and tribal government administration has informed her work representing her district in the state legislature.
