Biography
Will D. Mortenson is a Republican attorney from Fort Pierre, South Dakota, representing District 24 in the South Dakota House of Representatives since January 2021. Born January 1, 1988, in Pierre, he serves the counties of Hughes, Hyde, Stanley, and Sully, and is also known as a cow hand. Notable achievements include leading the articles of impeachment against Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg in 2021 and 2022, resulting in Ravnsborg's removal; in 2022, he was selected as House Majority Leader—the youngest Republican in state history to hold the role and the first tribal member to lead a majority caucus. He announced in February 2026 that he will not seek re-election. He serves on the House Committee on Judiciary and co-chairs the House Committee on State-Tribal Relations.
