Biography
Wilford Carter
Wilford Dan Carter Sr. is an American politician serving as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from the 34th district, representing Calcasieu Parish. A member of the Democratic Party, he assumed office on January 13, 2020, succeeding Albert Franklin. His current term is scheduled to end on January 10, 2028.
Education
Carter attended McNeese State University. He subsequently earned a Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center.
Political Experience
Before serving in the state legislature, Carter had a lengthy career in the judiciary. He served as a judge of the 14th Judicial District in Calcasieu Parish for 21 years. He was first elected to this position on October 3, 1992, took office in 1993, and retired on November 1, 2013.
Carter was a Democratic candidate for District 34 of the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2015. In 2019, he advanced to a runoff election against Kevin Guidry after defeating Matilda Green Miller. He won the general election on November 16, 2019, receiving 57.2% of the vote.
In 2023, Carter won re-election outright in the primary on October 14, 2023, with 62% of the vote, defeating Kevin Guidry and Franklin Lewis Sr. During his tenure in the House, his committee assignments for the 2021-
