Biography
Wayne McMahen is a Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, representing District 10, which covers parts of Bossier and Webster Parishes. Born on October 3, 1954, in Springhill, Louisiana, he is a retired veterinarian, cattle farmer, and director at Citizens National Bank and Springhill Medical Center. He resides in Springhill with his wife, Beverly Kay Stuart, and has three children; he is Southern Baptist. McMahen won his seat unopposed in 2018 following a resignation and was re-elected outright in the 2023 primary, with his current term ending January 10, 2028. Notable achievements include authoring a 2022 bill classifying resisting an officer as a violent crime, which passed but was vetoed by Governor John Bel Edwards.
Education and Political Experience
Education: McMahen earned a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana Tech University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University.
Political Experience: Before politics, he owned and operated McMahen Veterinary Hospital, taking it over from his father, before retiring upon election in 2018. He serves as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Health and Welfare; member of Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development; Ways and Means; Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay; and House Select Committee on Disaster Recovery; and is part of the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation and Louisiana Rural Caucus.
