Biography
Wayne Long is a Republican member of the Arkansas House of Representatives, representing District 39, which includes portions of Independence, Jackson, and White Counties. He assumed office on January 9, 2023, after defeating Clayton Hall in the 2022 general election with 87% of the vote, succeeding Mark Lowery. Currently serving his second term in the 95th General Assembly , he holds committee assignments on House State Agencies and Governmental Affairs, House Public Health, Welfare and Labor, and the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee. A small business owner and farmer of Messianic faith, Long resides in Bradford with his wife Jan and their three adult sons; he was born and raised in Faulkner County.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Mayflower High School; studied Business Administration at the University of Central Arkansas.
- Political Experience: Served two terms as Justice of the Peace on the Jackson County Quorum Court before election to the House in 2022. Notable legislation includes sponsoring HB1974 in 2025 , requiring state entities to use E-Verify for employment eligibility and prohibiting unauthorized aliens from state jobs; it passed as Arkansas Act 948 on April 21, 2025. He has also introduced bills on voter registration opt-outs from the National Voter Registration Act and runoff elections.
