Vivian E. Cook is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly representing District 32 in Queens, covering neighborhoods including Jamaica, South Jamaica, Rochdale Village, Jamaica Estates, and Springfield. She has served since 1991, making her the first Black woman to represent this Southeast Queens district, and announced in early 2026 that she will not seek reelection after 35 years, planning to complete her term through the end of 2026. A longtime community activist and District Leader in Queens for over 25 years, she has been County Committee Chair of the Queens County Democratic Committee since at least 2019 and wields significant influence in Queens politics. Notable achievements include securing funding for parks , affordable housing programs, and improved services for seniors; she also founded the Allied Regular Democratic Club and South Ozone Park Women's Association.
