Biography
Viola Davis is a Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives representing District 87 in DeKalb County, covering areas like Stone Mountain. Born on March 19, 1963, in Topeka, Kansas, she grew up involved in the desegregation efforts following Brown v. Board of Education. A businesswoman, nurse, and community activist, she defeated incumbent Earnest "Coach" Williams in the 2018 election and was sworn in on January 14, 2019. Notable achievements include exposing government corruption through watchdog groups, leading the fight to secure nearly $5 million to cap the Scales Landfill, stopping the 2012 TSPLOST referendum as a top strategist, and achieving a 62% voter victory against cell towers on school grounds. She founded Restore DeKalb and Restore MARTA, and serves on committees including Defense & Veterans Affairs, Health, Insurance, Natural Resources & Environment, and Urban Affairs.
