Biography
Vincent "Vinnie" Kearney is a Democratic Assembly Member representing District 21 in the New Jersey General Assembly, covering Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, and Union counties, including municipalities such as Berkeley Heights, Bernards, Bernardsville, Chatham Borough, Chatham Township, Dunellen, Far Hills, Garwood, Green Brook, Long Hill, Middlesex, Mountainside, New Providence, Peapack-Gladstone, Springfield, Summit, Warren, Watchung, and Westfield.
A dedicated law enforcement professional and community leader, Kearney serves on the committees for Higher Education, Commerce & Economic Development, and State & Local Government. Notable achievements include co-founding the Garwood LIVE project in 2018 to live-stream government meetings, which he expanded to all town meetings on YouTube during his tenure as Garwood Councilman since 2021. He began his public service career in 1996 and resides in Garwood with his wife and two sons.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Oratory Prep in 1994; attended Fairleigh Dickinson University - Madison for one year; graduated from John H. Stamler Police Academy.
- Political Experience: Elected Garwood Councilman in 2021; elected to New Jersey Assembly District 21, one of two Democrats representing the district for the first time in decades.
- Professional Experience: Sheriff's Officer in Union County since 2016; instructor at John H. Stamler Police Academy; former Campus Police Officer at Kean University; 9-1-1 Dispatcher in Union Township ; volunteered as Emergency Medical Technician.
