Biography
Vince Perez is a Democratic state representative for Texas House District 77 in El Paso, first elected in 2025. A lifelong resident of El Paso's Mission Valley, he previously served as El Paso County Commissioner for Precinct 3 from 2013 to 2020, becoming the youngest member of the Commissioners Court after defeating former State Representative Chente Quintanilla. As a consultant and former Communications Director in the U.S. House of Representatives, Perez has focused on criminal justice reform, economic development, and transportation. Notable achievements include spearheading 2014 investigations into indigent defense practices, leading to statewide reforms; establishing the County Economic Impact Fund in 2018 to attract investment to the Borderplex region; blocking a hazardous medical waste facility in 2019; and earning the "National County Leader of the Year" award in 2016 from American City & County Magazine—the first for a Texas commissioner. He currently serves on the House Committees on Ways and Means, Higher Education, and Local and Consent Calendars, and holds roles as Deputy Whip for the Democratic Caucus and member of the Democratic Policy and Steering Committee. Perez also chairs the El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization Transportation Policy Board and the Central Appraisal District Board of Directors, and serves on the Texas Border Trade Advisory Committee.
