Biography

Victoria Neave Criado

Victoria Neave Criado was born on December 29, 1980, and is an American attorney and politician from Texas. She is the daughter of an immigrant and was the first in her family to graduate from college. Criado served as a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives for District 107 in Dallas County, where she made her mark in her first election by unseating Republican incumbent Kenneth Sheets in what became the most expensive Texas House race of the 2016 cycle.

Political Experience

Criado built a distinguished record in the Texas House focused on criminal justice reform and workers' rights. She passed legislation allowing Texans to donate toward rape kit testing through driver's license renewals, which collected over $234,956 by June 2018. Her most significant achievement was the Lavinia Masters Act in 2019, omnibus legislation that tackled the backlog of thousands of untested rape kits in Texas and included $50 million from the state budget.

She also championed workplace protections by leading efforts to void nondisclosure agreements that prevent employees from reporting sexual harassment or sexual assault to law enforcement and regulatory agencies.

In 2021, during only her third term, Criado was appointed Chair of the Texas House Committee on Juvenile Justice and Family Issues, making her the sixth Latina in Texas history to chair a committee in the Texas House. In 2023, she was appointed Chair of the Texas House Committee on County Affairs. She ran as a candidate for Texas State Senate District 16 in the 2024 primary election.
