Biography

Senator Victoria Gu

Victoria Gu is a Democratic member of the Rhode Island State Senate representing District 38, which encompasses Westerly, Charlestown, and South Kingstown. She was elected in November 2022 and assumed office on January 3, 2023.

The daughter of immigrants from China, Gu grew up in South Kingstown and has maintained a strong commitment to community service and environmental advocacy throughout her career. She previously served as Chair of Charlestown's Climate Resiliency Commission, where she applied her professional expertise in data analysis and modeling to address climate change impacts on the local community.

Education

Gu is a graduate of South Kingstown High School and Harvard University.

She successfully championed healthcare funding to double Medicaid reimbursement for ambulance services, supported mental health funding for school-based social workers and psychologists, and advanced housing affordability through short-term rental regulation and accessory dwelling unit policies.

In 2024, Gu was selected as a fellow for the Energy & Environment Innovation Fellowship hosted by Future Caucus, a bipartisan cohort for legislators focused on climate change, energy policy, and environmental justice.
