Veronica Sims is a Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing District 33 since her appointment in February 2024 to replace resigned Rep. Tavia Galonski. She was sworn into the 136th General Assembly and won unopposed in the 2024 primary and general elections. A lifelong Akron resident, she is married to Quintin Sims with one adult daughter, Qyra, and currently serves as Community Outreach Specialist for Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Notable achievements include being the first elected official in Summit County to serve on the Akron Public Schools Board , Akron City Council , and Summit County Council , where she was elected Vice President in 2022 and President in 2023-2024—the first African American woman to hold those roles. On County Council, she chaired Planning and Economic Development, vice-chaired Health and Human Services, and served on Public Safety and Finance committees; she co-chaired the Racism as a Public Health Crisis Special Review Committee. Key initiatives include declaring racism a public health crisis, expanding jury diversity, supporting small businesses and families during the pandemic, and co-sponsoring Juneteenth as a paid holiday. She is passionate about interrupting gun violence, affordable housing, criminal justice reform, senior support, and economic development for small businesses.
