Biography

Venton Jones is a Democratic State Representative for Texas House District 100, which includes parts of South Dallas, West Dallas, East Dallas, Buckner Terrace, Victory Park, Oak Cliff, and portions of Dallas County. A native of the district, he was first elected in 2022 and, as of 2026, is serving his third term as Texas House Minority Whip. He is an openly Black gay lawmaker living with HIV, committed to advancing equity, justice, healthcare access, affordable housing, economic development, and voting rights for marginalized communities. Jones is the Founder and CEO of the Southern Black Policy and Advocacy Network , a nonprofit focused on improving health, social, and economic conditions for Black communities in the U.S. South; he is also a Texas Realtor.

Notable achievements and positions include Vice Chair of the House Committee on Corrections, member of the Appropriations Committee , Whip of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, Vice Chair of the Texas House LGBTQ Caucus, Parliamentarian of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, Legislative Chairman of the Aggie Caucus, and Chair of the Dallas County Delegation. He was named LGBTQ Caucus “Freshman of the Year” in the 88th Legislative Session, Raise Your Hand Texas “Public Education Champion” , and Texas Medical Association “Champion of Medicine Award” .

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Community Health from Texas A&M University; Master of Science in Health Care Administration from The University of Texas at Arlington; global Project Management Professional certification.
  • Political Experience: Elected to Texas House in 2022; previously led organizations and impacted public policy over two decades as a nonprofit CEO and advocate; active in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and lifetime NAACP member.
