Vance Smith, Jr. is a Republican representing House District 138 in the Georgia House of Representatives, covering portions of Harris, Muscogee, and Troup counties. He resides in Harris County and has been married to Michele, a former teacher, for 47 years; they have three children and seven grandsons. Smith owns and operates Vance Smith Contracting & Consulting, LLC, providing business development services for construction and engineering firms; he previously served as president and CEO of Vance Smith Construction Company, founded in 1974.
Notable achievements include serving as Harris County Commissioner , first elected to the Georgia House in 1992 , Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner , and reelected to the House in 2018. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee and Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, plus committees including Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Economic Development & Tourism, Motor Vehicles, Transportation, Urban Affairs, and Ways & Means.
