Biography
Van Burtenshaw is a Republican state senator representing Idaho Senate District 31. A farmer, rancher, and livestock dealer from the Terreton area, he has served in the Idaho Legislature since 2014, initially in the House for District 35 before moving to the Senate in 2018. He is in his third Senate term, elected in 2020, and is known for supporting anti-abortion positions and gun rights. Burtenshaw chairs the Resources & Environment Committee and co-chairs the Joint Millennium Fund Committee and Committee on Federalism; he also serves on Education, Transportation, and Change in Employee Compensation committees.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended Ricks College, earning an Associate of Arts degree .
- Political Experience: Elected unopposed to Idaho House District 35 Seat A in 2014 and 2016; won Republican primary in 2018 and general election unopposed for Senate District 35 . Previously served on Agriculture, Resource & Conservation, and Joint Finance-Appropriations committees, focusing on natural resources, water, and agriculture.
