Biography

Representative V.L. Coffin

V.L. Coffin is a Republican representing Windsor-2 in the Vermont House of Representatives, serving since 2025. His full name is Voranus Lothrop Coffin IV, named after a Civil War volunteer from Maine.

Coffin was born in Biddeford, Maine, and raised in New Jersey by his mother along with his brother and three sisters. He relocated to Vermont in 1996, settling first in Bellows Falls, where he established his family home.

Throughout his career, Coffin has held diverse occupations including furniture delivery and repair, sewage pump station maintenance, truck driving, and mill and mining operations. He also worked for the Rockingham highway department before entering the legislature.

Education and Military Service

Coffin spent two years studying at Divine Word Seminary. His primary focus, however, has been military service. He joined the U.S. Army in 1990 and was stationed in Germany, where he organized community support programs for a children's home in Regensburg, including organizing recreational activities and holiday celebrations.

On October 10, 2001, he reentered service with the Vermont Army National Guard, eventually deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service and retired from the Guard in February 2017.

Political Experience

Coffin currently serves on the House Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs. His campaign priorities center on improving Vermont's affordability, reducing taxes and fees, reforming Act 250 to facilitate rural home construction, and supporting local flood mitigation efforts. He advocates for fiscal responsibility and working across party lines to address constituents' needs.
